I was asked to do a tutorial on the makeup that Vanessa Hudgens wears in the movie Sucker Punch for a CosPlay.
Let me first explain to those of you who don’t now what CosPlay is.
CosPlay (1984) is short for Costume Play, you become the character but not for an event like Halloween. It’s becoming more popular with the internet (it started gaining popularity around 1990) helping people get ideas and tutorials for creating costumes to represent a often a specific film, graphic novel, theatre or game character. The costumes and accessories are almost always home made, so there’s a real art in recreating these characters. The skills needed for and details that can be found in the costume is a way to show how good you are at CosPlay. But it doesn’t stop there, makeup (prosthetics and hair are also extremely important, most characters even need wigs. Creating these characters takes not only a lot of time, it can also cost a lot of money, so sharing your results with your (online) community is very important.
You might wonder why people participate in CosPlay, it’s to show people characters they identify with or the love they have for a character. As in all arts, there are those who simply do it because they love doing it. Some do it because of the notoriety they get when they CosPlay a certain character or for the amazing likeness and skills needed to portrait this particular character.
For the makeup in Sucker Punch, I found who did the original makeup for the movie, the artist is Rosalina Da Silva http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0196301/).
She’s done the makeup on a lot of movies, but the ones that stood out to me are:

Next I searched for possible movie facecharts for Sucker Punch, I found the test makeup charts because Rosalina has her own website http://www.amorebeautifulmakeup.com .
These do give me an idea of makeup that was used, and if you want, you can actually follow these charts to the letter.
Rosalina tells the makeup was inspired by the 60′s makeup fashions and the Japanese Anime and Manga style of cartoons.

In the movie Vanessa portraits Blondie, a young woman of Native American descent; this is supported by the design of her costume and her use of a tomahawk. She keeps her long hair piled high on her head, adorned with a set of goggles she never wears over her eyes.
The look I was requested to do was this one: 
Of course this image isn’t the original picture and I’m guessing the actual makeup looked more like this:

It’s difficult to replicate the makeup from the picture I’ve been given simply because it’s been photoshopped. I tried my best to make it look as much as possible like the picture.

Remember everyone has a different shaped eye, so don’t just copy the look simply step by step, but if your eyes need more darkness underneath, add it, if you need a highlighter on the browbone, add it. This is makeup, it’s not set in stone and every face looks different, so every face needs a slightly different makeup approach.
I do have to add that even though I did use a LOT of products, I used a little product every time, which means that it still didn’t look cakey and horrible in normal sun light. I took off the lashes and got groceries and went to the movies and no one looked at me like I was wearing a lot of makeup. The only question I got was from Nicole who asked me if I had self tanned because I was so tan all of a sudden. So it still doesn’t need to look fake in real life.

I knew CosPlay because I used to follow QueenBeeuty (Kallel Cullen) on YouTube and she started getting more and more into CosPlay, even stopping her old channel all together and starting a new one called cozplai, she wasn’t uploading a lot and then switched to http://www.youtube.com/user/WonderlandWardrobe where she’s now uploading Vlogs, DIYs and more. I still follow her because sometimes she makes interesting things, but many of her videos I don’t watch anymore.
